Right
by the entrance, I will have placed protective covers for shoes, of
the kind usually provided in mansion houses to protect the floor
against dirt from visitors´shoes. There is a sign by the door asking
visitors to wear them. I have noticed that, as soon as people put on
these slippers, they begin to move in a different way. The natural
inclination is to start dancing and sliding across the floor in them,
like figureskaters on ice. Because I place them right at the door,
visitors in the past don´t usually see them as an exhibit. Either
automatically, or after a gallery assistant indicates them, visitors
put them on. They start to behave like day visitors to a castle. They
slide across the floor, dance balletic steps and thus subconsciously
enact my performance.
